Sharon at Church

Monacan Chief, Sharon Bryant, center, performs the Sunday service inside the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, in Amherst, VA. Bryant was in the process of becoming an ordained minister before she died of cancer in July, 2015. The mission church was founded in 1908 and further strengthened the bond of those families that stayed in the Bear Mountain settlement by creating a school for children to attend. The church, tribal hall and ancestral museum are all adjacent to each other, forming the center of the Monacan community in Amherst, VA.
